About this work

A young woman leans slightly forward, her turban a slow flame of orange and dusty red banded with a jewelled cord and a peacock crest. Notice the long, patient eyes and the flute laid quietly against her cheek: she is listening as much as playing. The whole background is worked in soft washes of amber and yellow so that the head seems to rise out of warm air. Anahita’s signature sits in the lower left, in her usual light hand.
