About this work
This is one of Anahita’s turbaned women, held between drawing and painting. Notice how the pencil is still visible around the eyes, the mouth and the pearl brooch, while colour has swept in behind, wrapping the head in an orange and yellow flame. The sari falls softly at the shoulder, its pink echoing the warmth of the cheek. Half-finished or half-revealed, it reads like the moment a portrait begins to breathe.
