About this work

A portrait study of a young woman at rest, painted in a hushed sepia scale so the drawing does all the work. Notice the play of the raised arm against the pale ground and the almost calligraphic ruffle of the collar. The palette has been pulled back to ivory, warm grey and near-black, which lets the sitter’s expression carry the picture. This capture is a phone screenshot of the camera roll rather than a photograph of the canvas itself, so it will need reshooting flat and square before it can be catalogued properly.
