About this work

This is a fragment of one of Anahita’s watching portraits, the sort where the sitter is thinking hard about the person opposite. She works the skin in warm layers, gold under orange under a touch of violet at the temple, then closes the picture with a strong blue behind. Notice the raised hand at the top, a gesture she keeps returning to, half a shield and half a wave. A full photograph of the finished work is needed for the catalogue.
