About this work

This is a portrait pared right back. Only three real notes hold the picture: warm skin, black hair, and a single deep red mouth. Notice the small strokes of pink and yellow held back at the edges, just enough to keep the black from becoming a hole. The eyes are drawn as directly as jewellery, and the whole thing has the stillness of a saint’s icon.
