About this work
A slender bird plunges through a green night, wings opened like a fan of pink, lilac and pale blue, its long feathers unfurling behind in ribbons of colour. Notice how the head, small and beaked, turns almost as an afterthought while the tail carries the movement of the whole canvas. Anahita treats the sky as a soft, breathing ground so the bird seems to be made of the same air. It is easy to read this as a Simorgh, the mythical bird of Persian poetry.
