About this work
One of her sea pieces, painted in the quiet romantic register she likes for water: warm sky behind, cool water below, and the whole picture held together by the arc of the breaking wave. Look at how the spray keeps its form against the darker sea, and how the small band of gulls sets the scale of the whole thing. The rock in the foreground gives your eye somewhere to rest before the next wave arrives.
