About this work
The whole picture rests on stillness. Horizontal drags of amber, green and pearl grey settle across a wide sky, and the water below repeats them almost exactly, so the scene reads as two mirrored halves. On the right, a low skyline of domes and slender spires floats above its own reflection; on the left, a stand of trees leans out over the shallows. It is that hour when the day has let go and everything holds its breath.
