About this work
A landscape at the moment the sun drops. The sky is her real subject here: an ambitious pass from vermilion at the horizon up through soft coral, green and purple, so the top of the picture is almost as loaded as the bottom. On the right, a distant hilltop carries a small cluster of domed buildings, drawn as silhouettes, giving the scene the feel of somewhere between a memory of the near East and an English evening.
