About this work

Anahita has taken the wall of the garden building for her canvas and given it a cockerel who owns the place. The tail feathers arc up and out in slow curves of teal, green and yellow, and the body is a heap of warm orange and gold scales drawn out feather by feather. The bird stands square, chest forward, comb up. Notice how she lets the grain of the wood read through the paint, so the whole thing feels grown into the wall rather than stuck onto it.
