About this work
Here Anahita steps out of naturalism and plays. The sitter is built from flat blocks of red and green with a body drawn in confident black line, a nod to Picasso done in her own quick handwriting. Notice how the two profiles share a single eye, and how the striped bodice pulls the whole picture together. It is one of her studio exercises, made in an afternoon of pure colour.
