About this work

A single bird, seen from directly below, holds the whole sheet. The wings reach almost from edge to edge, the primaries drawn as a row of dark fingers, the body a soft grey mass and the tail feathered out behind. Anahita leaves the ground almost bare so that the shape of the bird carries the picture. It is a study of poise, a moment of stillness in a great slow turn.
