About this work
This head is one of Anahita’s larger portrait sculptures, modelled and glazed so the hair sweeps in one long wave from the crown down past the cheek. The face is finished smooth, almost porcelain, then the mouth is picked out in a warm red and the eyes in a clear blue. Notice the way the hair is worked in fine ridges, catching light like a real head of hair. It hangs above the hall mirror as if it has always lived there.
