About this work

This one lives on the edge of abstract and portrait. Notice the vertical drips of the ground, drawn down like rain on a pane so the two eyes seem to be looking out from behind weather. The irises are painted very warmly against all that cool blue, which is what makes the picture feel alive rather than sad. It rewards being hung wide and low, at eye height.
