About this work

This one is painted straight onto the pine boards of a garden panel, so the wood grain shows through the colour and joins the design. Notice how the central petal glows a soft turquoise dotted with gold flowers, while the outer petals move through coral, rose, green and cobalt. Little red drops rise around the lotus like sparks, and a strand of red beads falls from the flower’s base like a pendant. It has the calm symmetry of a mandala and the warmth of something made for a much-loved corner of the garden.
