Pierrots

The clown who never speaks, painted again and again. Anahita's Pierrots rest, wait and watch in loose white costume and ruffled collar, set against teal and grey grounds that hold the room's own quiet.

The Pierrot has returned to Anahita’s easel for years. He never performs; he pauses. Her palette is an unhurried teal with grey and paper white, the colour of a stage between acts, and her drawing under the paint is confident and simple. Every canvas is signed in her round hand, most in the lower right.

The series belongs to her figurative work: naturalism with a touch of romanticism, the human made specific rather than typical. Reclining Pierrot, the flagship of the series at sixty by one hundred and fifty centimetres in acrylic on canvas, sets the scale the smaller Pierrots answer to.
