Persian scenes

A Persian courtyard painting: a green door in an ochre wall, a climbing rose in heavy red bloom over it, a wooden bench, a silver samovar on a red patterned rug and a small tea tray on the tiles.
Samovar in the Courtyard

Courtyards, samovars, tiled light and remembered rooms: the Tehran of her childhood, painted from Surrey.

Anahita was born in Tehran and came to England as a teenager. The Persian paintings are not documents; they are remembered light: a samovar in a courtyard, a doorway, the blue of tilework, the particular yellow of a hot afternoon.

They sit close to the portraits in feeling. Where the portraits look at a person, these look at a place that made her.
