Ceramic masks
Faces crowned with grapes, vine leaves and small blue blossoms. Cobalt, terracotta and verdigris glazes. Anahita's masks are worn by a wall, not a face; they change the room.
The masks began as portraits in clay and became a series. Each face is hand-modelled and then finished with a crown of vine leaves, grapes or blossoms pressed and cut individually. Glazes are Anahita’s own recipes: cobalt for the grape crowns, verdigris green for the vine crowns, and terracotta left plain for the smaller faces.
They hang directly from a hidden loop at the back and cast a slight shadow against a pale wall. Sizes are recorded from the ceramic itself.
